Packaging integrity for EO-sterilized microneedling cartridges is not about keeping the pouch sealed. It is about maintaining the sterility boundary through shipping, storage, and handling. We test our sealed pouches for leak integrity per ASTM F2096 (bubble leak test) and seal strength per ASTM F88.

Test Frequency Every

The test frequency is every 30 minutes during the packaging line run. If a seal failure is detected, all cartridges packaged since the last passing test are quarantined and re-inspected. The packaging material is medical-grade Tyvek and medical-grade clear film.

Tyvek Grade Provides

The Tyvek grade is 1073B, which provides bacterial barrier properties while allowing EO gas penetration and outgassing. The shelf life validation per ASTM F1980 (accelerated aging) confirmed 3-year sterility maintenance at 25°C and 60% relative humidity. We have seen suppliers use standard polyethylene bags instead of medical-grade pouches for EO-sterilized products.

Standard Polyethylene Does

Standard polyethylene does not allow adequate EO outgassing, which means residual EO levels may exceed material compatibility standards. If your cartridge pouch looks like a standard ziplock bag, the sterilization validation is likely incomplete.
