We Hold Needle Tip Angle to ±0.5 Degrees. Here Is Why Most Factories Do Not

Packaging integrity for EO-sterilized microneedling cartridges is not about keeping the pouch sealed.

5 cleanroom production line

One parameter that separates good microneedling cartridges from average ones is needle exposure consistency. The exposure is the length of needle protruding from the hub face. If this varies across the array, some needles will penetrate deeper than intended while others barely break the skin.

Measure Needle Exposure

We measure needle exposure using a laser profilometer on every production batch’s first article, then every 500 cartridges during the run. Our spec is ±0.02mm from nominal. We have seen supplier samples where the exposure varied by ±0.10mm across the same array – that is a 5x difference in penetration force across the treatment area.

Root Cause Almost

The root cause is almost always the needle-to-hub alignment fixture. If the fixture that positions the needles during the hub molding process has any wear, the exposure drifts. Our alignment fixtures are machined from hardened tool steel and replaced every 50,000 cycles.

Track Fixture Wear

We track fixture wear against exposure measurements and replace fixtures before they reach the tolerance limit, not after. Why does tbphp invest in fixture tracking? Because a cartridge with ±0.10mm exposure variation will produce inconsistent clinical results.

Clinic Blames Protocol

The clinic blames the protocol. The patient blames the clinic. The real problem was the fixture.

If you are reading this thinking – I wish my current supplier provided this level of detail – then you already know what your next procurement decision looks like. Detailed quality documentation in microneedling is not a luxury. It is the baseline for a reliable supply chain. tbphp provides OEM partners with full manufacturing data.
